Peptitler (Grekçe: πεπτίδια; “ıvır zıvır sindirilebilirler”) tanılamamlanmış bir düzende, α-amino asitlerin birbirine bağlamlanmasıyla oluşan kısaltarak polimerlerdir.[1] Bir amino hamız lakırtııntısı ile öbürü arasındaki bağ bir “amit bağ” veya peptit bağı olarak bilinir.[1]
Tetrapeptit (Oligopeptit)
Proteinler polipeptit molekülleridir (veya çok skorda polipeptit alt birimi barındırır). Baş üstelik peptitlerin kısaltarak, polipeptitlerin/proteinlerin ise uzun olmasıdır.[1]
Protein sentezi sırasında her amino hamız, diğer amino asite kadimî, kırılmayan bir polimer olan polipeptid zincirleriyle bağlamlanır. Polipeptid kuruluşsına taşlıklan amino asitlerin her biri kuruluşya peptid bağlamlarıyla bağlamlanır. Peptid bağının oluşumu sırasında amino asitlerden birinin amino grubu ile diğerinin karboksil grubu, aradan bir ab çıkması sonucu birleşirler.[1]
Yaklaşık bir polipeptit zinciri 450 amino asitten oluşur.[1] Aşina en uzun polipeptit, takribî 27,000 amino asitten oluşan, kas dokusunda kâin “titin”dir. Polipeptid zincirine taşlıklan amino asitlere lakırtııntı (residue) adı verilir.[1] Zincirin bir ucundaki lakırtııntı, bağ yapmamış, erkin amino grubu barındırır ve N ucu olarak adlandırılır. Aynı şekilde zincirin diğer ucundaki erkin α-karboksil grubu olan lakırtııntıevet C ucu adı verilir.
